STANLEY BOOMBOXTOOL BOX SPEAKERS
Inspired by Tom Sachs’s Boombox Retrospective exhibition, this piece explores the transformation of ubiquitous, everyday objects into functional art. The goal is to challenge perception and create a unique visual and auditory experience.
The work is constructed from an real Stanley Toolbox, an object chosen specifically for its form. Its perfect rectangular shape and central handle directly echo the iconic design language of retro 1980s boomboxes, creating an immediate sense of nostalgic recognition
Beyond its sculptural presence, the piece is a fully functional speaker, operable via a standard AUX cable. The audio quality is an intentional part of the concept; the hard plastic casing and large, hollow interior—materials never intended for acoustic fidelity—naturally produce a distinct, "lo-fi" retro sound. This raw sound profile complements the vintage aesthetic, completing the object's transformation.
